Limitations

Aum Sairam

The very skills, attitude, knowledge that one learns become a source of
hindrance for one's ability to embark on a spiritual journey and to
realize God. Human beings like any other thing in this universe are a
creation of Nature. Being caught in the illusion and the worldly
affairs, the soul gets lost. Mind and intellect pump up the ego. Thus
the "I" and "ME" clouds us and makes it difficult to see the reality.
One becomes a slave to the various senses and gets caught in
conflicting theories and concepts proposed by the Human race! Human
beings tend to become creators forgetting that we ourselves are a part
of nature's creation.

What eternal thing could we create as a species when we ourselves do
not survive too long? Nothing! Yet we base our lives justifying our
existence on worldly affairs and modern concepts of convenience and the
appeasement of ego! Scientists from all branches of science invent or
discover new insights to Nature's creation and how it works. The
creations and inventions that have thus far happened are nothing more
than God revealing a nature's secret through the scientist's thoughts!
Even the greatest scientists of all times give up after reaching a
point because Nature is unfathomable, can not be understood and can not
be perceived without divine help and interference! If that is so, then
what is our role and goal? Where did the world come from? Who created
it? How does it function? Such questions have been and continue to be
asked by intellects as well as ordinary persons since the creation of
this universe. The Supreme and divine soul, of which we are all but a
part, taught the purpose of Human life, its role, how it should be
lived, and its ultimate destination as well as the creation of this
universe through the ancient scriptures. In today's times, the ancient
teachings are neither understood nor practiced by an average person. It
is very difficult, although not impossible, to understand, perceive and
live these teachings in the times we live in.

Does the diligent following of a religion provide the answers? Path,
though it is, blindfolded at times due to our own selfishness
otherwise, could there any single life be lost in the name of religion?
Who provides the answers?

For this reason, the divine soul manifested itself as a common person
to teach the eternal truth. Composed of infinite love, infinite
knowledge, infinite compassion, infinite power, and infinite bliss "Sri
Sai Baba" came into our lives to lead the souls of his devotees out of
misery, pain and illusion to set them on the right path towards the
ultimate destination. Singing, reading, hearing, talking, preaching,
reflecting, contemplating, etc on the life and teachings of "Sri Sai
Baba" will awaken the soul and start to make it walk towards the right
path. Said Sri Sai Baba to His intimate devotee Nana, "Awaken the inner
self... you will see the magnificence". Let us all gather and sing the
praise of that Lord who will bring us all to the path to destination.

Baba and Vasudevanand

Aum Sairam

Vasudevanand, a contemporary of Sri Sai Baba, was a staunch fire worshipper and a rigid observer of religious practices. He had also perfect command over several mantras. Sri Sai Baba, too, was a fire worshipper. Hence these two saints regarded each other as brothers.

When vasudevanand was at Rajmahendry, Pundalikrao, a lawyer from Nanded and friends came for his darshan. Pundalikrao was a Sri Sai Bhakta. So in the course of conversation, Baba's name came up. Hearing it, Vasudevanand was overwhelmed with a feeling of reverence and folding his hands, enquired, when are you going to Shirdi? Right from here, I am going to Sri Sai Baba, said Pundalikrao.

Vasudevanand picked up a coconut, held it near his heart and, handing it over to Pundalikrao, said, and then, please give this to my brother. Soon Pundalikrao and his friends started for Shirdi. They took with them flowers, coconuts etc. to offer to Sri Sai Baba, and a few eatables for themselves. On their journey, they ate some chiwada, which tasted very not. To appease the heat, one of them suggested that coconut be mixed with it. So a fruit was broken and, mixing it with chiwada, they ate it with pleasure. Then it struck them that the coconut they broke was the same which Vasudevanand had given for Sri Sai Baba. They all felt very sorry. What could they tell Sri Sai Baba? No hatched up account would do, for Sri Sai Baba would already know everything. So Pundalikrao went and sat with his head hung down. Sri Sai Baba slyly asked, Pundalikrao, where is the present from my brother? Pundalikrao confessed everything and said he would go and bring another coconut. No other coconut would do, Sri Sai Baba intervened. That coconut cannot be replaced by a thousand others; for it was not a mere coconut; it was the very heart of my dear brother. Remember, how my brother had given it to you?

Pundalikrao recollected that Vasudevanand had held the coconut near his
heart and said, give this to my brother. He had put his very heart in
the coconut before making it over to Pundalikrao. Highly developed
souls like Vasudevanand and Sri Sai Baba can communicate with each
other by means of their psychic powers. That is how Vasudevanand had
informed Sai Baba about the coconut he was sending. Sri Sai Baba too
had immediately received that message. This is called telepathy.

Let go of my life

Aum Sairam

The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water whose waters never fail.

Imagine the beauty of a watered garden. The wild color of flowers flashing in the sun, the beads of dampness on green leaves, the shy hesitancy of buds beginning to unfold their petals, and the abandon of playfulness and joy unfettered by the cares and troubles of the world.

Imagine if our lives were like the watered garden. If our soul was as carefree in the hand of heaven as flowers are in the dance of the sun. Much of the arid and parched feeling that overtakes and even overcomes us at times comes because we are trying to be something other than what we are, or trying to manipulate and control our circumstances, or insisting that we are the only ones responsible for our lives. We stress and strain to be in control of our lives and sadly find ourselves feeling, not like a watered garden, but like dry, fissured cracks of dirt in a desolate desert.

Try being a flower for a day, simply being the willing recipient of God's great grace. Let the hand of heaven mold and shape you, warm you, nourish you. Watch yourself unfold and notice how you pirouette as playfully as a daisy in the soft breeze.

Oh God, help me let go of my life for just a day, to become a flower in the sun.

Evolution of Prayer

Aum Sairam

Sri Sai Baba says: Four types of persons pray to me:
Those who are in distress,
Those who are in need,
Those who are curious, and
Those who are wise [Jnani]

Out of these the first one can be excused for he prays out of panic and
helplessness, and the second one remembers the Lord only when his needs
cannot be fulfilled. The third and the fourth categories are of
selfless aspirants. The third devotee - the curious one, like a
scientist, tries to know the secrets of this mind boggling universe of
name and forms, of joys and sorrows, etc. He says: Oh Lord, I do not
understand the intricacies of this universal order [or disorder]; pray,
tell me the secrets of this Sun and the Moon, the Earth and all your
creation! But the fourth, the Jnani, prays because he has had realized
the glory of the Self. Lead me from darkness to Light, lead me from
ignorance to Knowledge, lead me from mortality to Immortality, is one
such true spiritual prayer.

The Lord naturally loves His fourth devotee who prays Him through
Knowledge and whose prayer transforms automatically into the highest
form of worship. In Jnana one finds the true and esthetic synthesis of
prayer and worship; in Jnana we find beauty of simultaneous complaint
and reverence of a sadhaka towards God. However, the highest prayer
comes from the highest Knowledge of Advaita. Albeit, when such a person
comes down to ordinary level of human consciousness his knowledge of
universal solidarity stays with him and his prayer becomes universal in
appeal and compassionate in content. The highest Advaita prayer is:
Rise thou effulgent one, rise thou who art always pure, rise thou birth
less and deathless, rise almighty, and manifest thy true nature.

No prayer should ever be ridiculed or despised, how so ever crude it
might be, and how so ever selfish it might appear; for, in every prayer
one finds the acceptance of higher authority of God. Every person who
prays accepts the higher Self and his ego takes a secondary place at
least for that period of time. Gradually, with some inexplicable
factors, his power of discrimination leads him to selfless prayer in
course of time.

Cardinal Rules of the Sai Way of Living

Aum Sairam

1. Sri Sai Baba advocated Nishta and Saburi. Nishta means complete
surrender to Sri Sai Baba and belief in Him, Saburi meant patience.

2. Udi removes all physical and mental ailments when taken with faith
and devotion. This Udi has been touched by Baba as He Himself lit the
flames of Dhuni and is our direct connection to Him.

3. Sri Sai Philosophy believes that we need a Guru to lead us to
salvation. Sri Sai Baba is our Sadguru, Lord and sole refuge.

4. Sri Sai Baba believed in Karma and rebirth. Hence we should be ever
conscious in our behavior to never hurt people nor build bad karma and
attachments. Baba despised speaking bad about others.

5. Sri Sai Baba said that no quest could be successfully carried out on
empty stomach.

6. Sri Sai Baba can come to us [a] in dreams [b] in the form of Himself
or of any Sadhu [c] in the form of His picture. These are all clear
indications of His grace and Sri Sai Baba coming to us.

7. It is preferable to receive holy daily parayana books, such as Shri
Sai Satcharitra, from Sri Sai Baba by placing them on Sri Sai Baba's
Samadhi. Sri Sai Baba prescribed regular parayana.

8. Feeding a hungry soul is like feeding Sri Sai Baba. Sri Sai Baba
called this the axiomatic truth.

9. Sri Sai Baba stated My bones will speak and I am ever alive from My
tomb. We should only go to Him with all our requests.

10. Sri Sai Baba stated that once we enter Dwarkamai, our troubles have ended.

11. One who lovingly sings Sri Sai Baba's fame and those who hear the
same with devotion, both will become one with Sri Sai Baba,

12. Sri Sai Baba said that we couldn't escape from paying for loans
[dues], animosity and murder.

13. Sri Sai Baba dissuaded people from approaching palmists and
occultist for advice. We depend on Sri Sai Baba's grace for everything.

14. Sri Sai Baba told us to knock the wall of difference between Him
and us and see Sri Sai Baba in ourselves and in everybody. He said
spiritual progress would be rapid then.

15. We should not be anxious, leave everything to Sri Sai Baba and do
our duty. He wants to be responsible for us like a parent. Give the
responsibility to Sri Sai Baba.

Humble and Modest

Aum Sairam

Sri Sai Baba said, "He [the devotee] should be modest and humble
towards all, and worship Me with heart and soul. If he does this, he
will get eternal happiness" in Shri Sai Satcharitra Ch.III. If you
derive the least benefit from anyone, or should anyone contribute to
your happiness in any way, acknowledge his services sincerely and feel
grateful to him.

Never for a moment think that the benefit of happiness you derived was
due to your own Prarabdha and he was only an instrument and did nothing
to earn your gratitude. On the contrary, you should feel that he
conferred a great happiness. Gratefully remember the help received from
him, do not forget it throughout your life even when circumstances have
changed and always try to make him happy and be of service to him.

Do not hesitate, when necessary, to acknowledge his services to you
openly before a large gathering. This will foster mutual love between
you and your benefactor and promote happiness and peace; the spirit of
making others happy will grow from more to more among people, mutual
sympathy and the spirit of service will receive encouragement.

Remember that he who cherishes a feeling of gratitude towards his
benefactor renders a great service to the world at large; for such an
attitude pleases the heart of the benefactor, he feels encouraged, and
the spirit of service and benevolence gets strengthened within him.

God pleased with those who are grateful, and angry with those who are
ungrateful. Therefore, be grateful and never forget the obligation of
your benefactor.

LOVE - Must Read This

Aum Sairam

We hear so much about love, and talk about it but do we really practice it? I am sure you would agree with me that we bear a taboo where using the word 'love', either we use it carelessly or guard is closely. For most love are attraction + lust. That is the reason why we restrict the use of word. The whole universe is based on the powerful 4 letter words, all the underlying teachings of Holy Quran, Holy Bible, Shree Bhagawad Geeta, Shri Sai Satcharitra you name it are based on only one premise 'LOVE'. Then why do we fear that word? Remember that incident in Shri Sai Satcharitra where Sri Sai Baba presses hand of Mrs Kharpade when she is shampooing His legs, and the sweet murmurings of Sri Sai Baba in her ears which touched her heart and lodged the words of Sri Sai Baba "Rajaram Rajaram" in her heart. That is love, divine love. LOVE is a strong emotion devoid lust.

We all love people beyond our home and family. I do care about my colleagues and love them. I always run to help them when they are in trouble. I don't want them to suffer. Love according to God is divine. Have you noticed that as the years pass by the relationship between wife and husband is more of a care, mother or father towards each other? Shocking to acknowledge this, but each of the partner assumes the role of a parent, sibling, friend and companion as the years go by. This is divine love. It is okay to love people who don't belong to us and are not related to us. It is okay to tell them you love them.

Let us not jump to conclusions when a woman and a man talk. There are
different relationships in this world other than one involving primal
instincts of propagation. Let us love everybody, which is the basic
principle of every religion and purpose of spirituality. I feel honored
to know you all. I love each one of you, and would die to be of any
service to you, for each one of you have contributed to my
understanding of world and God through my writings. I feel fortunate to
have known you. God bless you abundantly for the love you showered upon
me. My Sri Sai Baba said HE LOVES ME through various media and sources,
and NOW I pass on that love of Sri Sai Baba to you and beg you to open
your hearts and receive him. Love everybody you come across and see
what a difference it makes to your life and happiness.

When you spread love nothing can touch you. God lives in love. The
stars you see when in love is nothing but the infinite light manifested
by God. Be enveloped in the warmth of the lord through this love. Start
loving people, show you care by small gestures, which bring smile to
their faces.

This is the love between Guru and his followers, Lord Krishna and his
Gopis, Shree Rama and Mata Sita. Sri Sai Baba and his followers. Let us
follow Him and love everybody, irrespective of age, sex and race. WE
CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THIS WORLD.

Sri Sai Baba bless us always and give us strength to always stick to
the right path of love.

I LOVE YOU ALL

The Colors of Friendship

Aum Sairam

Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel. All
claimed that they were the best. The most important. The most useful.
The most beautiful. The favorite.

Green said:
Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I
was chosen for grass, trees and leaves. Without me, all animals would
die. Look over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority.

Blue interrupted:
You only think about the earth, but consider the sky and the sea. It is
the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the
deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace,
you would all be nothing.

Yellow chuckled:
You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth into the
world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, and the stars are yellow.
Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile.
Without me there would be no fun.

Orange started next to blow her trumpet:
I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce, but I am
precious for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most
important vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangoes, and
papayas. I don't hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at
sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another
thought to any of you.

Red could stand it no longer he shouted out:
I am the ruler of all of you. I am blood - life's blood! I am the color
of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring
fire into the blood. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the
moon. I am the color of passion and of love, the red rose, the
poinsettia and the poppy.

Purple rose up to his full height:
He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: I am the color of royalty
and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me for I am
the sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me! They
listen and obey.

Finally Indigo spoke, much more quietly than all the others, but with
just as much determination: Think of me. I am the color of silence. You
hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I
represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me
for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace.

And so the colors went on boasting, each convinced of his or her own
superiority. Their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there
was a startling flash of bright lightening, thunder rolled and boomed.
Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colors crouched down in
fear, drawing close to one another for comfort.

In the midst of the clamor, rain began to speak:
You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to
dominate the rest. Don't you know that you were each made for a special
purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me.

Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands.

The rain continued:
From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in
a great bow of color as a reminder that you can all live in peace. The
Rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow. And so, whenever a good rain
washes the world and a Rainbow appears in the sky, to let us remember
to appreciate one another.

There can be hope only for a society which acts as one big family, not
as many separate ones.

Color of Joy

Aum Sairam

Spring Festival with a Difference
Hurray, the springs back! -- "H-O-L-I H-A-I". Now get set to paint each other in the colors of joy, for the festival of colors - Holi is just round the corner. It's an occasion that brings in unadulterated joy and mirth, fun and play, music and dance, and, of course, lots of bright colors to make a festive graffiti on every heart.

Happy Days Are Here Again
With winter neatly tucked up in the attic, it's time to come out of our cocoons and enjoy this spring festival. Every year it is celebrated on the day after the full moon in early March and glorifies good harvest and fertility of the land. It is also time for spring harvest. The new crop refills the stores in every household and perhaps such abundance accounts for the riotous merriment during Holi. This also explains the other names of this celebration - 'Vasant Mahautsav' and 'Kama Mahautsav'.

Don't Mind, It's Holi
During Holi, practices, which at other times could be offensive, are allowed. Squirting colored water on passers-by, dunking friends in mud pool amidst teasing and laughter, getting intoxicated on bhang and reveling with companions is perfectly acceptable. In fact, on the days of Holi, you can get away with almost anything by saying, "Don't mind, it's Holi!" [Hindi = Bura Na Mano, Holi Hai.].

Holi Legends & Myths
Like all Indian and Hindu festivals, Holi is inextricably linked to mythical tales. There are at least three legends that are directly associated with the festival of colors: the Holika-Hiranyakashipu-Prahlad episode, Lord Shiva's killing of Kamadeva, and the story of the Progress Dhundhi.

The Holika-Prahlad Episode
The evolution of the term Holi makes an interesting study in itself.
Legend has it that it derives its name from Holika, the daughter of the
mythical megalomaniac king Hiranyakashipu who commanded everyone to
worship him. But his little son Prahlad refused to do so. Instead he
became a devotee of Vishnu, the Hindu God.

Hiranyakashipu ordered his daughter Holika to kill Prahlad and she,
possessing the power to walk through fire unharmed, picked up the child
and walked into a fire with him. Prahlad, however, chanted the names of
God and was saved from the fire. Holika perished because she did not
know that her powers were only effective if she entered the fire alone.

This myth has a strong association with the festival of Holi, and even
today there is a practice of hurling cow dung into the fire and
shouting obscenities at it, as if at Holika.

The Story of Dhundhi
It was also on this day that an ogress called Dhundhi, who was
troubling the children in the kingdom of Prthu was chased away by the
shouts and pranks of village youngsters. Although this female monster
had secured several boons that made her almost invincible, shouts,
abuses and pranks of boys was a chink in the armor for Dhundi, owing to
a curse from Lord Shiva.

The Kamadeva Myth
It is often believed that it was on this day that Lord Shiva opened his
third eye and incinerated Kamadeva, the god of love, to death. So, many
people worship Kamadeva on Holi-day, with the simple offering of a
mixture of mango blossoms and sandalwood paste.

Radha-Krishna Legend
Holi is also celebrated in memory of the immortal love of Lord Krishna
and Radha. The young Krishna would complain to his mother Yashoda about
why Radha was so fair and he so dark. Yashoda advised him to apply
color on Radha's face and see how her complexion would change. In the
legends of Krishna as a youth he is depicted playing all sorts of
pranks with the gopis or cowgirls. One prank was to throw colored
powder all over them. So at Holi, images of Krishna and his consort
Radha are often carried through the streets. Holi is celebrated with
eclat in the villages around Mathura, the birth-place of Krishna.

The History behind Holi
Holi as a festival seems to have started several centuries before
Christ as can be inferred from its mentions in the religious works of
Jaimini's Purvamimamsa-Sutras and Kathaka-Grhya-Sutra.

Holi in Temple Sculptures
Holi is one of the oldest among Hindu festivals, there is no doubt.
Various references are found in the sculptures on walls of old temples.
A 16th century panel sculpted in a temple at Hampi, capital of
Vijayanagar, shows a joyous scene depicting Holi where a prince and his
princess are standing amidst maids waiting with syringes to drench the
royal couple in colored water.

Birthday of Shri Chaitanya Maha Prabhu
Holi Poornima is also celebrated as the birthday of Shri Chaitanya
Mahaprabhu (A.D. 1486-1533), mostly in Bengal, and also in the coastal
city of Puri, Orissa, and the holy cities of Mathura and Vrindavan, in
the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Slanderer Condemned

Aum Sairam

Sri Sai Baba required no special place, nor any special time for giving
instructions. Whenever any occasion demanded, He gave them freely. Once
it so happened that a Bhakta of Sri Sai Baba, reviled another behind
his back, before other people. On leaving aside merits, he dwelt on the
faults of his brother and spoke so sarcastically, that the hearers were
disgusted. Generally, we see that people have a tendency to scandalize
others, un-necessarily, and this brings on hatred and ill- will. Saints
see scandal, in another light. They say that there are various ways of
cleansing or removing dirt, viz. by means of earth, water and soap
etc., but a scandal monger has got a way of his own. He removes the
dirt [faults] of others by his tongue; so in a way of obliges the
person, whom he reviles and for this he is to be thanked. Sri Sai Baba
had his own method of correcting the scandal- monger. He knew by his
omniscience what the slanderer had done and when He met him at noon
near the Lendi, Sri Sai Baba pointed out to him a pig that was eating
filth near the fence and said to him - "Behold how, with what relish it
is gorging dung. Your conduct is similar. You go on reviling your own
brethren to your heart's content. After performing many deeds of merit,
you are born a man, and if you act like this, will Shirdi help you in
any way?" Needless to say, that the Bhakta took the lesson to his
heart, and went away.

Sri Sai Baba said that He was omnipresent, occupying land, air, country, world, light and heaven, and that He was not limited. To remove the misunderstanding of those, who thought that Sri Sai Baba was only His body - three cubits and a half in length, He incarnated Himself in this form and if any devotee meditated on Him day and night with complete self-surrender, he experienced complete union [without any difference] with Him like sweetness and sugar, waves and sea, eye and its luster. He, who wants to get rid of the cycle of births and deaths, should lead a righteous life, with his mind calm and composed. He should always engage himself in good actions, should do his duties and surrender himself, heart and soul to Him. He need not then be afraid of anything. He who trusts Him entirely, hears and expounds His Leela's and does not think of anything else, is sure to attain Self realization.

Fear not Sai is living with us

Aum Sairam

Saints never die, they visit this earth, regulate the society and
leaving the earth after satisfactory completion of the task given by
God to them. Several devotees were frightened at the idea of Sri Sai
Baba leaving them to themselves by leaving His body. Sri Sai Baba told
one of the Mumbai ladies, Mrs. Tarabai Sadasiva Tarkhad, Mother, I do
not die. Wherever you are, if you think of Me, I am there at any time
you please [whether I am in the body or out of it], and in Shri Sai
Satcharitra, we have read Sri Sai Baba had given similar assurance to
Damodar Rasne. Both the above blessed children of Sri Sai Baba
experienced Sri Sai Baba's presence even after Mahasamadhi. Shri Rasne
saw physical, living and moving body of Sri Sai Baba with his own eyes
any number of times and talked with that body. Mrs. Tarkhad said, 'Sri
Sai Baba has not altogether vanished, He is still living with us now
and gives ample proof of his powers and protecting care in many matters
off and on, though the impressions about these, because of His body
being invisible, are not so great as those that the devotees enjoyed
when they sat in his presence at Shirdi.'

Abdullah Jan, originally of Tarbella, Mazra district near Peshawar, was a Pathan, living at Korhale, near Sakori - once expressed his fear that Sri Sai Baba would expire and that all His work and influence would pass away with Him. Sri Sai Baba said, 'Turban Hun Danda Hani', which is the Marathi expression for from within the tomb I will beat with sticks.' This statement is further strengthened with the following incident, which happened 18 years after Sri Sai Baba's Mahasamadhi. Imam Bhai Chote Khan, aged about 65 years residing at Vijapur, Aurangabad district, told H.H B V Narasimhaswamiji. About 1936, Chote Khan and Madhav Fasle were at the Mosque one night. Chote Khan heard Sri Sai Baba's voice Ye Madhav. Get up, I want to pass urine.' But Madhav in his deep sleep did not get up. Early in the morning, both of them found in the hollow at the place where Sri Sai Baba used to sit, scented water. The hollow was filled water. Sri Sai Baba had passed urine and it had become scented water.

In our life everyday we are coming across so many incidents that Sri Sai Baba is still living with us and helping to ward off our troubles and calamities. Fear not - Sri Sai Baba is living with us, simply follow his doctrines "You need not go far in search of Me. Barring your name and form, there exists in you as well as in all beings, a sense of Being or Consciousness of Existence. That is Myself [Shri Sai Satcharitra Ch.XLIII] Always worship Me, who is seated in your heart as well as in the heart of all beings [Ch.XV]. Hence Sri Sai Baba is within us, helping us and guiding us.

Spiritual Truth

Aum Sairam

Time is divine; Time is treasure and Time is the life of the soul.
Methods make time.
Punctuality should be made not only a point of courtesy but also a
point of consciousness too.
Delay is preferable to absence; better late than never. But better
never ever late.
Promptness is the mother of confidence.
To everything there is a season and everything is in its time.
Time makes more converts than reason.
Time is the school in which we learn and time is the fire in which we burn.
We must accomplish ourselves to make the time work for us for the
betterment of tomorrow.

We must take time before time takes us:
Take time to think it is the source of power
Take time to read it is the foundation of knowledge
Take time to work it is the price of success
Take time to pray it is the union of mind and meditation with God.

Worry

Aum Sairam

We should not worry. We should have implicit faith in Sri Sai Baba, in
our Inner Pilot or in our spiritual Master. We have to feel that not
only does Sri Sai Baba know what is best for us, but He will do what is
best for us. We worry because we do not know what is going to happen to
us tomorrow, or even the next minute. We feel that if we do not do
something for ourselves, then who is going to do it? But if we can feel
that there is someone who thinks of us infinitely more than we think of
ourselves and if we can consciously offer our responsibility to Him,
saying, "You are responsible. You are responsible for what I do and say
and grow into," then our past, our present and our future become His
problem. As long as we try to be responsible for our own life, we will
be miserable. We will not be able to properly utilize even two minutes
out of every twenty four hours we have. When we can feel that we are
Sri Sai Baba's conscious instruments and He is the Doer, then we will
not worry about our destiny; we will not be afraid of our destiny, for
we will know and feel that it is in the all-loving Hands of Sai Maa,
who will do everything in us, through us and for us.

Let us consciously offer our very existence what we have and what we
are to Sri Sai Baba. What we have is aspiration to grow into the very
image of Shirdi Sai, into infinite peace, Light and bliss. And what we
are right now is just ignorance, the ignorance sea. If we can offer our
aspiration-cry and our ignorance sea to Sri Sai Baba, then our problem
is solved. We should not and we need not ever worry about destiny. On
the strength of our surrender, we become inseparably one with Sri Sai
Baba's cosmic will.

Sai Seva and Its Meaning - The S.A.I. Of Service

Aum Sairam

What type of service should devotees perform? Perhaps the word SAI can
serve as a guide - He indeed is the guide for those who sincerely reach
out and want Him to be the guide.

[S] - The service should be satvic, selfless and must be undertaken as
a yagna: a sacrifice for God.

[A] - Atmic Oneness, Must be recognized in all the service that is performed

[I] - The Individual, "I" consciousness and its twin brother "My" must
be reduced, and the unitary Universal "I" must be allowed to emerge.

Let us examine the above briefly

[S] - Satvic, Selfless Service Means to serve those who are in greatest
need not looking for one's personal convenience of Time, Energy and
Comfort. It means seeking out the neediest, identifying their real
needs and then providing that service so that those served perceive you
as "God Sent" to relieve their suffering.

[A] - Atmic oneness Is the spiritual practice of expanding one's
consciousness, one's Love, dissolving the feelings of separateness
arising out of caste, creed, status, etc., serving those of different
color, religion, etc., as one's own brother.

[I] - The Individual "I" Is one who declares that he is one with God,
full of ego? "The first Lesson of "I" is not to judge the Ego of others
only to work with a feeling of thankfulness to have been blessed with
ability and opportunity to serve and to attempt to reduce one's own "I"
and "MY" syndrome.

Be ever grateful to God for the opportunity to serve, for the needy
have given you the grace to earn spiritual merit which will either
reduce negative karmic backlash coming from your past, or create
positive karmic waves for your future. Who has helped whom more? Where
is the room for your Ego to emerge? What have you done? Thus is the
totality of Sri Sai service to become as one's life breath, enriching
the lives of Sri Sai Sewaks [the active workers] and those who served,
by the Sri Sai in all of us.

Be Like a Tree

Aum Sairam

We all desire to evolve and attempt to make our lives better but we often fall short of our desires. In order to evolve, our first step should be to quit desiring. Desire is a manifestation of our craving, which we wish to accomplish some day and it further creates expectations from everyone in and around us including ourselves.

Our reaction to our expectations is usually in the form of anxiety, pain, stress, self-condemnation, accusation etc. But the question is why this does happen to us? It happens because we are weak and are surrounded by uncertainty. Our actions are small but our expectations are very high. We have got into the habit of reacting about everything irrespective of whether it concerns us or not and if at all it concerns us our reactions are totally self-centered. We have become so obsessed with ourselves that we have created a world of our ideas, thoughts, principles and procedures and anything that falls beyond it is considered to be wrong by us.

It may not seem like the perfect comparison, but when we compare ourselves with a tree, we find that we don't have to face even one per cent of the difficulties faced by a tree. Still, a tree always seems to be relaxed and calm. It does not oppose anything though it experiences everything. It doesn't have a home of its own but becomes home for so many living beings.

A tree always seems to be relaxed and calm. It does not oppose anything though it experiences everything.

A tree provides home and shelter for everyone without discriminating between animals and humans or between the stronger and the weaker and is thankful to others for giving it an opportunity to serve them. On the other hand, we humans fight over small pieces of land. And if we provide shelter to anyone we either charge rent or do not hesitate in mentioning the favor that we have bestowed on our fellow human beings.

A tree remains unaffected by strong winds, scorching heat, cold breeze,
rain etc as it stands still on its ground firmly facing the different
forms and forces of nature with indifference. On the other hand we
humans have all the reasons to complain about the heat, cold, changing
weather and other in hospitable conditions.

Anna Chinchanikar vs. Mavsibai

Aum Sairam

There was one devotee by name Damodar Ghanashyama Babare alias Anna
Chinchanikar. He was simple, rough and straightforward. He cared for
nobody, always spoke plainly and carried all dealings in cash. Though
he looked outwardly harsh and uncompromising, he was good natured and
guileless So Sri Sai Baba loved him. One day, like others serving Sri
Sai Baba in their own way, this Anna was, one noon standing prone and
was shampooing the left arm of Sri Sai Baba, which rested on the
kathada [railing]. On the right side, one old widow named Venubai
Koujalgi whom Sri Sai Baba called mother and all others Mavsibai was
serving Sri Sai Baba in her own way. This Mavsibai was an elderly woman
of pure heart. She clasped the fingers of both her hands round the
trunk of Sri Sai Baba and was at this time kneading Sri Sai Baba's
abdomen. She did this so forcibly that Sri Sai Baba s back and abdomen
became flat [one] and Sri Sai Baba moved from side to side. Anna on the
other side was steady, but Mavsibai's face moved up and down with her
strokes. Once it so happened that her face came very close to Anna's.
Being of a witty disposition she remarked - Oh, this Anna is a lewd
[bad] fellow, he wants to kiss me. Even being so old with grey hair he
feels no shame in kissing me. These words enraged Anna and he pulled up
his sleeves and said you say that I am an old bad fellow, am I quite a
fool? It is you that have picked up a quarrel and are quarreling with
me. All the persons, present there were enjoying this encounter between
them. Sri Sai Baba, who loved both of them equally and wanted to pacify
them, managed the affair very skillfully. Lovingly He said Oh Anna, why
are you unnecessarily raising this hue and cry? I do not understand
what harm or impropriety is there, when the mother is kissed?" Hearing
these words of Sri Sai Baba, both of them were satisfied and all the
persons laughed merrily and enjoyed Sri Sai Baba's wit to their heart's content. .

Allah Malik

His Dependency on Bhaktas

Aum Sairam

Sri Sai Baba allowed His devotees to serve Him in their own way, and
did not like any other persons interfering. Mavsibai was on another
occasion, kneading Sri Sai Baba's abdomen. Seeing the fury and force
used by her, all the other devotees felt nervous and anxious. They
said, Oh mother, be more considerate and moderate, otherwise you will
break Sri Sai Baba's arteries and nerves. At this Sri Sai Baba got up
at once from His seat, dashed His satka on the ground. He got enraged
and His eyes became red like a live charcoal. None dared to stand
before or face Sri Sai Baba. Then He took hold of one end of the Satka
with both hands and pressed it in the hollow of his abdomen. The other
end He fixed to the post and began to press His abdomen against it. The
satka which was about two or three feet in length seemed all to go into
the abdomen and the people feared that the abdomen would be ruptured in
a short time. The post was fixed and immovable and Sri Sai Baba began
to go closer and closer to it and clasped the post firmly. Every moment
the rupture was expected, and they were all dismayed, did not know what
to do, and stood dumb with wonder and fear. Sri Sai Baba suffered this
ordeal for the sake of His Bhakta. The other devotees wanted only to
give a hint to the Mavsibai to be moderate in her service and not cause
any trouble or pain to Sri Sai Baba. This they did with good intention,
but Sri Sai Baba did not brook even this. They were surprised to see
that their well-intentioned effort had resulted in this catastrophe;
and they could do nothing but to wait and see. Fortunately, Sri Sai
Baba's rage soon cooled down. He left the satka and resumed His seat.
From this time onward, the devotees took the lesson that they should
not meddle with anybody but allow him to serve Sri Sai Baba as the
chooses, as He was capable to gauge the merits and worth of the service
rendered unto Him.

Leela's Of Sri Sai Baba

Aum Sairam

May This Thursday [Baba's Day] Bring You Strength, Good luck, Success, Happiness and Joy

For the first time when Sri Sai Baba stepped into Shirdi and on the inquiry of local people about the particulars of Baba it is told that Baba had replied that - "Hum to Sai hai, gosai hai, Lambe Lambe se aye hai".

All of us know that once Sri Sai Baba climbed the house roof of Radha Krishna Mai and two rupees were paid to the person who brought the ladder. At that time Mai was suffering from fever and Sri Sai cured her through this Leela. Everybody were displeased for the payment of two rupees [large amount in those days] for that small seva. The name of the person who brought the ladder and got two rupees coolie from Sri Sai Baba was 'Venku Shimpe Kamblekar'. Who was childless and by worshiping these two rupees got two sons.

Sri Sai Baba rarely used to go to Neemgaon or to the house of Dengle at Rahata. Once when Sri Sai Baba was chatting with Dengle at Rahata two birds were talking on the tree. Then Sri Sai Baba inquired Dengle about the conversation of birds who knew bird's language. It was replied by Dengle that on that day poisoned Prasad was going to be offered to God Shani at Shirdi cooked with snake unknowingly and nine devotees who will eat will die. Soon Sri Sai Baba rushed to Shirdi in a Tonga and deputed his pet devotee Bhagoji to throw away the Prasad. When Bhagoji was going to be taken to task by the angry devotees who were innocent of the fact, Bhagoji took refugee of Sri Sai Baba. Then explaining the position and showing the dead serpent in the thrown Prasad Sri Sai Baba pacified them. Then every body praised Sri Sai Baba their "Prana Data". Sri Sai Baba told them that actually their "Prana Data" was Dengle only, but not Him, as through his timely indication only they were saved and all the credit goes to Dengle only. Through this can it be said that Sri Sai Baba was quite innocent of bird's language and Dengle alone was all knowing.

For this it is clear that all of us know that without the permission of Sri Sai Baba even a single leaf will not be done enough even to move. As Sri Sai Baba was not at all bothered, for name and fame and wide publicity, simply the same was attributed to Dengle.

One more peculiar thing is that when Sri Sai Baba was physically present at Shirdi there was an unmarried woman even though aged. She owed to offer a coconut to Sri Sai Baba if she gets married. By the grace of Sri Sai Baba she was got married as desired and was sent to her in laws house. Unfortunately her in laws were against Sri Sai Baba. But she had to fulfill her vow. Again she prayed Baba. Miraculously her husbands mind was changed and he made all the required arrangements for her to visit Shirdi. She happily reached Shirdi, had the darshan of Sri Sai Baba to her hearts content and had her night stay at Shirdi. In the morning she went to Sri Sai Baba with a coconut for offering. Meanwhile she observed that her nose ornament was stolen. Without that ornament she feared that she will not be permitted to step into her in laws house and began to scold Sri Sai Baba for her misfortune. Sri Sai Baba consoled her that nose ornament was not lost and it is with her only. But in her grief and confused state of mind, wanted to quit Dwarakamai as Sri Sai Baba was telling lies in her view. When she was in hurry to leave Dwarakamai Sri Sai Baba asked her "Mai will you not give me coconut brought for me" Angrily the woman saying 'you take your coconut' hit it to the ground and broke it. Surprisingly the nose ornament had come out from the broken coconut. How was this possible?

She apologized Sri Sai Baba and reached home happily with the Udi Prasad of Sri Sai Baba.

I humbly pray Sri Shirdi Sai Baba on this Beautiful Thursday [Baba's Day] to bless us all.

Sai Family Prayer for Grace

Aum Sairam

May This Thursday [Baba's Day] Bring You Strength, Good luck, Success, Happiness and Joy

Lord Sri Shirdi Sai Baba, we thank you for this opportunity to be together in one another's company. We thank you for the light you bring to our Sai family.

Oh "Sai" Please grant us the vision to see the highest in one another, and grant us the opportunity to continue to be there for each other in good times, as well as not-so-great-times.

Oh "Sai" Give us strength and fortitude to ride the tides of change, and empower us always to be nurturing and loving with one another. Open our spiritual eyes that we may see one another for which we truly are... and love one other in the same spirit.

Oh "Sai" May sadness, disappointment and anger be minimal; may happiness, positive thoughts and good experiences together be bountiful. May we always cope, and hope, with each other... with grace.

We thank on this Beautiful Thursday [Baba's Day] the Divine Sainath for His Love. May all our life be full with health and well-being.

Inner Ruler

Aum Sairam

I have indeed come here to awaken your Faith in Me. For, I have love
and affection for you. I am always with you in your heart and
everywhere too.

I know all that you choose to do. For, I am the Inner Ruler, sitting in
your Heart as well as in the hearts of all beings.

I need open no doors to enter any place. I have neither form nor any extension.

I always live everywhere. I often think of one who remembers Me. I run
and manifest Myself to the sincere One who lovingly calls out to Me and
need no conveyance, carriage, train or airplane to carry Me there. No
sooner you join your hands with Love and Devotion before Me or My photo
to invoke Me, I am instantly with you, whether it be day or night.

Though My Body is in Shirdi, still I see and know what you do beyond
the seven seas. Wherever you may go across the wide world, believe Me
that I am with you. For, My Abode is within your heart. Therefore,
always worship Me sincerely seated in your heart as well as in the
hearts of all beings. For, I exist in you as well as in all others in
the sense of Being or Consciousness of Existence. One is indeed blessed
& fortunate, who sees Me in all beings.

Once you practice seeing Me inside yourself, you will realize My
all-pervasiveness and will thus attain 'oneness' or attunement with Me.
My sole purpose here is to free from the evils of illusion anyone, who
takes refuge in My grace, and totally surrenders himself to Me,
worships Me faithfully and Meditates on Me constantly.

Many ways lead to self realization. One Way goes through Shirdi and I
can guide you to your destination, even if you merely utter My Name
[Sai] sincerely with love and affection.

But rarely does anyone come to Shirdi seeking Spiritual Enlightenment,
which I have in abundance to give. People normally want worldly welfare
and yet, I give them whatever they want.

Why Do I Feel

Aum Sairam

Why do I always feel like a war is going on within me?

The reason that you feel like a war is going on within you is because
you have many personalities within you all trying to become the star of
the stage of your consciousness. If you start to become aware of
yourself on a constant basis, you will notice this.

These personalities all have a function so you can live in this world,
but you must create one that keeps them in check. The way to do this is
to root yourself in the present moment throughout the day.

You will find that once you have deeply planted yourself in the present
moment, these personalities will have little or no power over you,
tormenting you no more.

You will then become Master of your own soul once again.

Virtue of Repentance

Aum Sairam

Heera, a blind convict, came to Shirdi to seek Sri Sai Baba. He came
with his young son. After visiting Sri Sai Baba and spending some time
in Shirdi, the blind Heera rested on the fields in the outskirts when
he heard a voice, tired? It took no time for Heera to figure out that
it was Baba speaking to him.

Falling to the way of vices, you sinner, did not hesitate to kill even
your wife. You killed her for her jewelry, and spent all the money on
your bad habits. You also lost your sight due to an accident, Sri Sai
Baba told Heera. Heera replied in a repentive tone, Yes, Baba. I have
paid my price by doing my time in the prison and I regret all I have
done. I have come to you to seek your blessings for my son.

Sensing the true regret and a sense of repentance in Heera, Sri Sai
Baba said, do not worry about your young one. Leave it on me. It is my
duty to protect him Heera was relieved to hear this. His worries about
taking care of his son duly addressed, Heera begged Sri Sai Baba, Oh my
Sainath, please let me touch your feet at least once. Sri Sai Baba
enticed him to walk forward as the blind ex convict surged forward
until he hit the trunk of a tree and fell down bleeding on the
forehead, unconscious.

A while later, Heera's young son came back to see his father lying
unconscious. Perturbed, he started to wake him up. Heera slowly woke up
and the unbelievable happened. At an instance, Heera realized that Sri
Sai Baba had restored his sight. Now he could see his young son with
his own eyes! His joy overboard, he shouted, Sri Sai Baba..! And he
began walking briskly towards the hamlet to fall at the feet of the God
that realized his true repentance.

He heard the voice again, there is no need to see me, and you may go
back to your village. There was no need to go anywhere to see Sri Sai
Baba. True repentance is God realization.

It's a Strange World

Aum Sairam

Sri Sai Baba said, "It is on account of Rinaubandh [former relationship] that we have come together, let us love and serve each other and be happy" in Shri Sai Satcharitra, ch. XVIII and XIX

It is a strange world in which we live a world which is governed by the law of karma. A son is born to a father. He feels happy and rejoices. Little does he know that the child has come to settle up old accounts.

A young man and his first cousin were in love with each other. After they got married, the girl found that her husband could not provide her with all the luxuries she wanted. She asked for a divorce and claimed from her husband the house in which they lived. Poor man, he had to surrender his house and is today, wandering homeless!

We come into contact with those whom we have karmic debts. We give them what we owe them and receive what they owe us.

Birth is never a matter of accident. Karma determines the family in which I am born. It is commonly believed that if I do evil, I shall be punished for it. The law of Karma, however, is not punitive but reformative. It may appear that the law of karma is punishing us for certain misdeeds we may have committed in a near or remote past. The law of karma never punishes. It puts us in an environment where we may have opportunities for self-growth. The law of karma provides us with experiences meant to help us to grow into better and nobler persons. Therefore, let us accept the situation in which we find ourselves and make most of it by learning the lesson which a particular experience has come to teach us. That is way of spiritual progress.

Karma binds those who identify themselves with their bodies [and the
mind]. Karma binds those who are conditioned by time and space. So many
of us think: I was born at such and such time and at such and such
place. I am so many feet tall and weigh so many pounds. I am living in
a palatial mansion and am prosperous and have great influence over the
people. When we think along those lines we create a cage of time and
space within our own minds and stay cooped up in it all our life. In
reality we are not bound by time and space for it is we who have
created time and space: time and space have created us. Birthless and
deathless art thou, Oh Arjuna! Says the Lord in Shri Bhagawad Gita.
Weapons cannot cleave thee, fires cannot burn thee, water cannot wet
thee, nor do winds dry thee away. Thou art immutable, eternal, all
pervading beyond time and space.

Blessed is the person who realizes the self: to him there are no
problems. He has the freedom which belongs to the children of God. For
us children of time and space there are seemingly endless problems. Our
greatest problem is we ourselves.

Allah Malik

Subconscious

Aum Sairam

Another way to speed up your quest for spiritual enlightenment is the practice of giving thanks. When you give thanks throughout the day, you are sending a signal to your subconscious mind that you have plenty.

When the subconscious mind believes it has plenty, it will always project a world of plenty, but if it believes in a world of lack and poverty, it will project a world full of little.

The world which God created is a world which lacks nothing. It is bountiful and eternal, and when you start to have a mindset which believes you are prosperous, you are aligning your mind to be in line with the universal principles that God created. Then, and only then, will your mind return back to its natural state and you will marvel at the marvelous new world which will appear before your very eyes.

So we come back to that old saying. Is the glass half empty, or is it half full? It's all how you see things, and when you see things in this way, you then make it your reality. The only difference is, the world of lack and poverty that you create is an illusion, and Gods world is the Truth.

Always Remember

Aum Sairam

Wherever you are, whatever you do, always remember this one thing well,
that I come to know, all the time, and in detail, what you are doing.
And I, about whom you have such an experience, am nearest to all, and
dwell in every body's heart. I travel everywhere and am the Lord and
Master of all.

I fill this entire creation of beings, both animate and inanimate, and
yet remain. All this is the Divine Scheme, in which I am the principal
manager of the strings. I am the Mother of this Universe and all the
beings therein; I am also the point of equilibrium of the Trigunas. I
alone provoke all the senses and, the Creator, Sustainer and Destroyer
of this Universe!

He who turns his attention to me can have no difficulties, whatsoever.
But he who forgets me will be ruthlessly whipped by Maya. This visible
worlds is my own manifestation, be it a worm or an ant, a pauper or a
king. This immeasurable creation of the movable and the immovable is
really Sri Sai Baba's very self.

Ignorance

Aum Sairam

Sri Sai Baba was the repository of knowledge that destroys ignorance.
Yet, Sri Sai Baba who personifies humility feigned ignorance to avoid
discussion or catching attention. Shri Hemadpant says that the true
Saints are like the Sun that destroys the darkness of ignorance.
Destroying ignorance is Jnana Expelling darkness means light. Sri Sai
Baba explains to Nanasaheb Chandorkar, a good student of Vedanta, that:
The Shishya [disciple] like the Sadguru is really embodiment of Jnana.
The disciple also is in fact of the same swarupa However, because of
his ignorance, he gets the impressions that "I am Jiva, a creature,
humble and poor. The Guru has to root out these offshoots of ignorance
and has to give upadesh or instruction.

The following are the instances of Ajnana.

1 - I am a Jiva (creature) - I am not God.
2 - Body is the soul (I am the body) - Not knowing, that body is not
the soul.
3 - God, world and Jiva are different - Not knowing that God, world and
Jiva are one.

It was the firm conviction of Sri Sai Baba that knowledge or Self
realization is not possible, unless there is the prior act of grinding
of all our impulses, desires, sins; and of the three gunas, viz.
Sattva, Rajas and Tamas; and the Ahamkara, which is so subtle and
therefore so difficult to be got rid of. Sri Sai devotees could define
ignorance as the state of mind that inhibits us to realize that God
[Sri Sai Baba], the world and us Jivas are all the same. We should
realize that humility and getting over our ahamkara [ego], impulses,
desires and sins by regularly reading Shri Sai Satcharitra with love,
faith and devotion would remove our ignorance, poverty and give us
knowledge, wealth and prosperity. Likewise, listening to Sadgurus [Sri
Sai Baba] and to His stories with undivided attention will destroy ignorance!

Allah Malik

Sadguru Saibaba

Aum Sairam

Being ignorant since many births, Oh Sai, I haven't known God! By the
flash of your mercy, I see the God for the first time!

What is the most important thing one could get from Sadguru Sainath? He
Himself said that although He is willing to give from His open coffers,
most are not inclined to seek it. After every desire is answered and
the truce between needs and wants established, Sadguru begins His work
on the chosen ones. The most competent Sainath has innumerable ways
that he chooses according to the nature of the devotee.

God vision, the realization of the supreme, the purpose to any quest,
realization of the self, knowledge of the absolute, these are some of
the descriptors of the dormant quest one might have in the spiritual
path. The Satsang with Sadguru is never passive! It is not a choice!

Is Sri Sai Baba a mere Guru or God himself? This is a stale question as
any reader of books on Sri Sai Baba can say that Sri Sai Baba appears
to those in whatever form they chose. Stories abound where Sri Sai Baba
appeared as Vithal, Shiva, Dattatreya, Jesus and other forms of
divinity. In spite of this, is there a question whether Sri Sai Baba is
just a siddha purusha, someone who acquired supernatural powers due to
sadhana or He the absolute beyond all siddhis? Is He the God?

What is God? What are God's attributes? None is able to describe this.
Hence, even the question whether Baba is God or not, is not completely
legitimate and at the best can only be a relative rhetoric! To make
this simple, if one would choose any form of God within one's confine,
describe the attributes of such a form, Rama, Shiva, Jesus, Krishna,
Vishnu, Allah or Buddha, all those attributes can be found in the
perfect master of Shirdi. If God is defined as an object of faith, the
faith will reveal God's form.

Messages That Guide You Daily

Aum Sairam

"Shifting Consciousness"

"The world we are experiencing today is the result of our collective
consciousness, and if we want a new world, each of us must start taking
responsibility for helping create it."

Below are levels of consciousness that clearly outline a path for our
evolving consciousness:

- tribal and mass consciousness - one obeys the group and lives by
trial and error
- individual consciousness - one develops a stronger sense of self and ego
- seeker's consciousness - one asks questions and seeks independence
- intuitive consciousness - one develops the heart and is becoming
spiritually aware
- group consciousness - one serves a higher good filling the needs of others
- soul consciousness - one experiences spiritual service.

On which level do you spend most of your time? What are you doing to
shift to the next level of being?

There are as many paths to understanding, awareness, peace, freedom,
love and meaningful service as there are people. Enjoy your journey!

"Consciousness is not just some by-product of the human brain mass.
Consciousness is all pervasive. It is in everything and is everywhere.
Your individual human consciousness exists within and is a part of a
universal consciousness."

"God acts in history: that is, God provides ideas, methods, and
experiences intended to bring comprehension to man, an understanding
heart, a conscious life."

Shirdi Sri Sai, please give us the much needed strength and courage to
remember few important ways.

May we remember to give others credit when they deserve it.
May we always let others shine and be happy for their success.
Allow us to imagine ourselves living the life of someone less fortunate
than us.
Let us not keep anything that isn't ours, even praise.
May we learn to be an advocate and an ambassador for good.
May we forever remember You, our God, in everything we do, and know
that You will show us the way.

The Evolutionary Process

Aum Sairam

May This Thursday [Baba's Day] and Maha Shivratri Bring You Strength,
Good luck, Success, Happiness and Joy.

For instance, life has evolved from matter and mind has evolved from
life. What is meant by `matter?' Matter is that which is encased in
life. Consider the example of paddy. As long as the rice grain is
covered by husk it is called paddy. When the husk is removed it becomes
rice. Paddy has the power to germinate as long as the husk remains.
Likewise, the vital principle is contained in matter. It may thus be
seen that life came from matter. Likewise, the mind evolved from life.
Today men are prepared to recognize that mind evolved from life and
life from matter. But they are not ready to go beyond this stage in
human evolution. Human evolution cannot be complete unless it goes
beyond the mind.

The next step in human evolution is the Super Mind. But man has to go
forward even from the Supra mental to the ultimate stage of
Sat-Chit-Ananda to realize his final destiny. The day when Man is able
to experience the divine state of Sat-Chit-Ananda
[Being-Aware-ness-Bliss] is really the holy day of " Shivratri ". Till
then, he is in perpetual darkness. Until a fruit ripens in a tree, its
juice is not sweet. When the fruit is fully ripe, it drops from the
tree. Attachment to the tree is gone. Likewise when a man achieves
spiritual maturity he acquires automatically "Vairagya" [detachment].
Man has to endeavor to reach this level of maturity by spiritual
practices for transforming his conscious- ness. In the evolution of
Consciousness several changes take place.

Receiving Humility's Reward

Aum Sairam

Sri Sai Baba promises to exalt His children, who live humbly, but we frequently look at circumstances--finances, job situation, or lack of material things--and question this pledge. It's important to view things from Sri Sai Baba's perspective rather than from the world's. While He may choose to give us material blessings, such benefits are hardly comparable to the greater rewards He longs to give, like increased understanding of who He is, or prayers answered beyond all imagination.

Certain attitudes prevent our receiving divine rewards. Impatience--we want it now and are unwilling to trust that Sri Sai Baba is in control. Insecurity--we feel that if certain things don't happen, we simply cannot continue. Identity in the wrong things--we feel good about ourselves only if we are a "success" by societal standards. Ignorance of Sri Sai Baba's ways-- we disregard His word and decide for ourselves what's right. Impure motives--Discontent or jealousy causes us to push ahead of Sri Sai Baba and use manipulation to get our way. Impulsiveness--without asking Sri Sai Baba, we assume every seeming opportunity is a door He's opened. Ingratitude--Lack of thankfulness for what Sri Sadguru has already given us skews our perspective.

Humility does not come naturally. It requires deliberate, ongoing effort to remain in Sri Sai Baba's presence so that we can see how worthy He is of our total submission. Begin today by bowing your heart before Sri Sai Baba and surrendering everything. Then wait patiently for His promised blessing.

Dissolve

Aum Sairam

Any attempt to get rid of painful feelings or memories is a judgment of
them, and judgment locks them more firmly into place. The only way you
can truly demonstrate unconditional love and acceptance of painful
feelings is to allow them to be experienced and expressed consciously
within you.

They are from the past.
You do not have to believe in them or identify with them.
Just allow them expression. Allow them to be experienced within you.
They will then relax.

If they are truly accepted and experienced, they will dissolve, not
because you are trying to get rid of them, but because you have truly
owned and accepted them.

Shri Sai Satcharitra and Holy Bible

Aum Sairam

When we worship Shirdi Sri Sai in the ashtothram or the 108 names one
of the attributes that we praise Sri Sai Baba as 'Sarvamatha Sammathaya
Namah'. Sri Sai Baba encouraged people from various religions to
following their practices. He even appeared to them as their favorite
God. Easter is a time when Lord Jesus, who was crucified, had
resurrected after three days. In Shri Sai Satcharitra also we find that
Sri Sai Baba had left his body for three days lying on the lap of
Bhagat Mahalsapati and then returned on the third day. Sri Sai Baba
demonstrated the unification of all the religions by his yogic
practices. It is a point to think when we enter into religious
arguments to praise one religion about the other whether it is
necessary to argue about religion or not? Let us hail the Son of God
who died for the children on this earth and bore the sins in the form
of the Cross. May the merciful father save us from sins always.

Glory to the Holy Spirit of the father son and Holy Spirit, [God, Guru
and Atma)

Guiding Messages

Aum Sairam

How can I hear the guiding messages that are sent to me by the Universe?

There is only one way to hear the constant calls from the Universe for
you to awaken from your psychic sleep, and that is to be still and
listen. Guidance is being sent to you all day long, but our noisy minds
cannot hear. Take time during your busy day to quiet your mind. In time
you will start to hear the silence within and you will feel like you
are coming home. The kingdom of heaven is within. There is nothing in
the world that can satisfy you like a quiet mind. You will feel happy
and whole.

Basic Ideals Of Shirdi Sai Avatar

Aum Sairam

When everything around us is religion based activities, Sri Sai created
a cult based on Shri Bhagavad Gita and lived for it throughout His
life. He saw God in all and in God He saw all.

He is perfect Advaiti par excellence and in His compassion, which is
never failing He expressed Himself as ultimate God. His cult is based
on pure and unalloyed love pervaded the universe as true activity of a Sadguru.

The concept of love and its unchecked ramification on everything it
came into contact. His Avatar is unique in that unlike Lord's avatars
where destruction of evil was certain, Sri Sai's avatar did not only
good but also transformed the evil into good.

This is a fact known from the verses of Shri Dasganu Maharaj. With this
short narration of Sri Shirdi Sai's qualities, let us ask ourselves one
question i.e. is we sincere to Sri Shirdi Sai? Of course, human life is
entangled with Karma and no one can escape at will and achieve good
alone to us.

Our Sadguru helps us to overcome our deficiency and at the same time
expects to follow accredited tenets of human life retold by Sri Sai in
His avatar. Sri Sai trusts all of us His children and He knows
children's psychology. He gives sweets to us to attract us before
harping upon His sermons. We continue to get sweets; but do we really
change our heart to pass on the pure and unalloyed love on others?

Love is a commodity, which is not to be sought from others; but to be
given unwarranted to others. Let us make get blessed by Sri Sai instantaneously.

Faith in God

Aum Sairam

Having faith in yourself means having faith in God. Every individual is
God and everyone must have that faith. When anyone does a wrong action,
thought or deed, his sub consciousness definitely tells him that his
action is not right.

That consciousness is, nothing but, your inner voice or consciousness
or the voice of the God. That proves that God is within us and directs
you about the consequences. We and the God are the same. When we
develop more of this feeling, we become, more humble, more careful,
clearer in our thoughts and action.

This is nothing but the grace of God from You which does all these
things. This is nothing but having faith in yourself as a God. One must
have a faith that God is not external but is within each and every
living and non living being in this cosmos.

INTUITION

Aum Sairam

The Immediate Intuitions of the Inner Life
Love is nothing if it is not spontaneous.

Different Degrees Of Intuitive Wisdom
As is true of the earthly career and its experiences, the states of
hell and heaven in the life after death are also integral parts of and
incidents in that journey of the individualized soul.

From Reason to Intuition
The intuition is not an emotion or psychic thing; it's not imagination;
in some sense it's developing a higher contact with Reality than that
which reason gives us.

Tuition and Intuition
Tuition is impressed from without, while intuition dawns from within.

Discrimination and Intuition
Everyday life must be guided by discrimination and inspired by the
highest intuitions.

The Best Intuitions of the Heart
The harnessing of occult forces is not to be regarded in any way as a
substitute for the inner effort the aspirant must make to advance further.

I Couldn't Pry It Apart For Him with a Lever
It's not easy to show the A B C of spirituality to intellectual giants
[even if we can have a mite of the infinite patience Sri Sai Baba has
with us].

I Speak Eternally
The voice that is heard deep within the soul is my voice -- the voice
of inspiration, of intuition, of guidance.

The Religion of Life
The Religion of Life is not fettered by mechanically repeated formulae
of the unenlightened, purblind and limited intellect.

True Faith Is a Form of Sight
In the Master, the aspirant sees his own ideal realized; the Master is
what his own deeper self would rather be.

These Commandments Are Latent In Every Human Being If we take the
trouble to analyze ourselves, we will discover that awareness of His
pleasure and displeasure is inherent in us.

First There Is Intuition
When it is from the mind, it is not intuition. Intuition means that
which comes from the heart.

Mind

Aum Sairam

The mind brings all kinds of miseries. The first: the mind is never in
the present, it goes on missing the present. And only the present is!
The mind is always in the past always and always in the past. Or always
in the future always and always in the future. The mind goes on jumping
from the past to the future, from the future to the past. It never
stays here, now. The mind is like the pendulum of a clock it goes on
moving from one polarity to another polarity but never stays in the middle.

One has to get out of this trap of the past and the future because the
door opens in the present; the door opens at this moment, either now or
never. And the door is open, but our eyes are wavering. We look into
the past, we look into the future and the present is very, very small
between these two, and we go on missing it.

Unless you drop the mind you can never be in tune with existence, you
cannot pulsate with the pulse of the universe. If you don't drop the
mind you go on living in a private world of your own creation; you
don't live in the real world.

Welfare of All

Aum Sairam

A number of Sri Sai devotees have expressed their views related to this
topic though may not have done so exactly in response to this
particular question. Sri Sai is unique and very different from Gurus or
spiritual leaders. While most if not all identify themselves with one
or other religion, Sri Sai remained Himself neutral to Hindu and Muslim
religions. Thus many followers of Hindu and Muslim religions are
devotees of Sri Sai. Sri Sai believed that sectarianism is the greatest
bar to our spiritual progress. He was unaffected by either praise or
disrespect towards Him. Sri Sai treated the rich and poor, small and
the great, those of any caste or creed, healthy or leper [Bhagoji
Shinde] or any nationality [Captain Hate] equally. Also, Sri Sai
encouraged devotees to maintain their devotion to God of a form of
their choice. So, as we have seen from messages to this forum, many
from various different religions feel at ease to respect Sri Sai Baba.
Among various lessons that we, Sri Sai devotees could learn from Shri
Sai Satcharitra, it appears that we need to recognize the importance of:

Saburi and Shradha in Guru or God

The need to grind or control our impulses, desires, sins and ego

Constantly remembering the Name and the Feet of Guru or God [Sai]

Maintaining humility and being egoless

Love, forgiveness, calmness, disinterestedness, charity, benevolence,
control of mind and body

Seeing Divinity and God in all living and non-living beings

'Da' [Dama, Dana, and Daya] - self-control, charity [particularly,
annadana] and compassion

Having control over weakness for women and wealth

Viveka [discrimination between Real and Unreal] and Vairagya
[non-attachment for Unreal]

Udi that teaches discrimination and dakshina that teaches us non-attachment

As God pervades in everything, whatever happens, it is divinely
ordained and it is hence good for us

Practicing different [9] forms of Bhakti or devotion

Never to speak ill of others

Not to run into debt and never to fast for attaining self-realization

Body and soul are different

Soul, God and the world are one

Barring our name and form, there exists in all beings, a sense of Being
or God [Sai] Consciousness

He that endures suffering pleases Sai most

Remembering and chanting Hari's and Guru's name confers salvation

What [whether good or bad] is ours, is with us, and what is another's
is with them

One has to reap what one sows

Completely surrendering and praising the Sadguru silently is the best
way to meditate on Him

We should not assume the sense of doer ship in doing either good or
bad deeds, but should be entirely pride less and egoless in all things
and dedicate our actions to God [Sai]

From the list of above, which is not complete, we as Sai devotees get a
feel for how we should view religion and spirituality. In a nutshell,
let us have the wisdom of focusing on spirituality not religion.
Devotees see Sri Sai in Jesus or Jesus in Sri Sai. Our family situation
is also similar. How wonderful is Sri Sai!

Truthfulness in Devotion

Aum Sairam

The relationship between a devotee and his God is sacred and only the
devotee and his / her God will know the truthfulness. External signs
can be false and misleading but we cannot deceive the God who dwells in
our heart. Thus we may put on all the external symbols like Vibhuti,
Rudraksha, Kumkum or many other marks to show that we are devoted, but
what counts is our mind and heart. We can't pretend to our conscience.
Since Sri Sai is SATCHITANANDA, SAT means TRUTH. He knows whether our
devotion to him is true or not.

During times of difficulty, do we remember him and pray to him? After
all the prayers, do we accept the results as his will especially if the
result is not what we prayed for? If yes, we can say we are true
devotees. It is a very difficult test indeed and though we may pass it
once or twice we may not pass it all the time. In fact getting a
steadfast devotion to any God is itself due to God's or Guru's grace.

So let us pray to Sri Sai to give us true steadfast devotion.
