Humble Request for Contributions towards Charity Run by us - Sri Naga Sayee Foundations.

Aum Sai Ram.

Well & Wish to hear the same from you. I hope You are All doing Well. I've now solved most of my Father's Health Problems. Still some medication & dressing is going on but it is better Now.

I'm Planning to Start back my charity work from coming week at the Ashram as well as Old Age Home Under our Banner of Sri Naga Sayee Foundations.

Due to Father's Bad Health & 11 Days of Hospitalisation in June End till Mid July 2015, I was not able to concentrate on Charity work from the Month of July till October 2015.

I'm at present equal to bankrupt as all the savings kept for charity have vanished for the Medical Expenses which came close to 1.4 Lakhs.

Roughly 11 Thousand per Day including 3 Anti Biotic IV Drips each nearing 2000Rs, Nursing, Medical, Consultation & Hospital Charges.

Like I told you, I told Others too not to send the Contribution till I plan to Resume the Charity or when I'm in Need of Money for the Same. My Humble Request to you will be to Support Me with the Charity by Making some Contribution as Possible towards Annadanam, Purchase of Grocery etc for the Ashram. We had Promised to Give Away Scholarship for Students Scoring High Marks in 10th Std Public Exams. All the Programs went out of Track due to Sudden Medical Urgency in my Home & My Frequent Visit to Hospitals & Temple for Treatment of Parents as well as Prayers.

Please Keep in Touch & Please do feel free to Ask me & get any Clarification if Needed. People Keen on Making Contributions can Write to Me at saiinc@ymail.com to get details for Making Contribution. All are Welcome. Take Care, Keep in Touch.

Soul Mates!

Aum Sai Ram.

1. Soul Mates are Always Your Best Friends. They’re also Your Romantic or Sexual Partners. (You can also have very deep connections with friends, family members and animals – I refer to them as soul friends – but other people also refer to them as soul mates).

2. Soul Mates are your Mirrors. They Reflect Back to you your Own Flaws, Insecurities, Dreams and Strengths to help you grow to the Fullest. You can rely on them to be Honest with You, Completely Honest, even to the point of not Sparing your Feelings Because they care about You that much.

3. Soul mates are your Spiritual Catalysts. They don’t Complete You, but they do help you to become the Best Version of yourself Possible. Why don’t they complete you? Because you are already complete at your core, and throughout the course of your life you are in the process of rediscovering that.

4. Soul mates are your confidants and teachers. Sometimes the lessons they teach are intentional, but often the lessons they teach are unintentional and are a by-product of your relationship with them. Because they understand you so deeply, soul mates also make powerful confidants, helping you through tough times and inspiring you to do and be your very best.

5. Soul mates feel very “familiar.” This is possibly because you have spent many past lives with them. Something between the two of you just clicks, as though you have been friends and lovers forever.

6. Soul mates often know you better than you know yourself. Therefore, they can empathize with you at a core level.

7. Soul mates vibrate at the same frequency as you. This is just a fancy way of saying that soul mates not only share your likes, tastes and goals, but they also share your deeper life values, beliefs and dreams. You both “get” each other on a DNA level.

8. Soul mates love you unconditionally. You also love them unconditionally. Although it may not be possible for soul mates to always stay together, it is impossible for soul mates to harbor feelings of hatred for each other for long periods of time. Despite what they do, you still love them, and they still love you.

9. Soul mates aren’t perfect. They have their annoying flaws, gross habits and strange quirks, but they are still amazing people deep down.

10. Soul mates aren’t always immediately recognizable. Love at first sight isn’t a myth, but it also isn’t the only way you can discover who your soul mate is. Often soul mates appear in various “Disguises” in our lives.

11. Soul mates don’t always stay with you for a lifetime. This is an extremely harmful myth that I’d love to squash once and for all! Soul mates don’t always stay until the end, but this is not a bad thing. We like to think that our lovers will be there forever because it is a comforting and sentimental thought. But sometimes life has different plans for us. Unfortunately the destruction of this ideal has wrought untold amounts of misery in people’s lives that I have witnessed firsthand. Sometimes soul mates are there for only a season, and sometimes they are there for a lifetime.

But whatever the Case, Enjoy the Ride.

RADHAKRISHNA AAI

Aum Sai Ram.

Sunderabai Kshirsagar first came to Shirdi from Pandharpur with Baba’s devotee Nanasaheb Chandorkar. She became devout follower of Baba. She surrendered to Him fully with all her mind & heart. She would continuously chant the God’s name, “Radha-Krishna” so much so, that people started knowing her by the name Radhakrishna Aai (Aai Means Mother). They almost forgot her real name. She used to do all possible seva to Baba; & inspired others to do so.

She was a young widow. She would never show her face to Baba. She never climbed the stairs of Dwarakamai. Baba would sleep in the Chawadi on alternate days. Only on those days she would go to Dwarakamai to place lighted rock-oil lamp (Kandir) on the stairs & return. She used to wear only white saris, which Baba used to provide her. He also used to send some eatables (Part of alms & Naivedyam received) to her at the hands of Madhavrao Deshpande. Baba had told him (Madhavrao) that she was there with Him in some previous birth.

Under Radhakrishna Aai’s management, offering Arati to Baba was started as a regular ritual. Arati would be offered three times a day. “Kakad Arati” at dawn, then afternoon Madhyan Arati & Shej Arati at Night.

At the time of Arati, devotees would hold Umbrella, Fan & other such things in honour of Baba (Chhatra, Chamar, Chavari, Abdagir etc). Radhakrishna Aai did immense efforts to change the face & ambiance of Shirdi. Shirdi village was transformed into Shridi-Sansthan.

Fakir-like humble appearance of Shirdi was changed & it shone with a new splendour. She got the Chawadi decorated with Glass Candle-holders, Chandeliers, Mirrors & Photo Frames. When Baba would be on His way to Chawadi, there would be music, a horse (it was named as Shamsundar) & a palanquin. The devotees would accompany Baba singing Bhajans (Devotional Songs).

She used to send rolled Betel-leaves (Govind-Vida) everyday to Baba. Baba would eat smashed Vida sent by her. She believed that Baba was Krishna. So she started Gokul-Ashtami (Birthday of God Krishna) Festival in Shirdi).

She was a Krishna Devotee. She had a small idol of Krishna. It was made up of some metal. She used to carry it with her all the time. She would not leave it even for a second. She might be Radha in her previous birth. Devotees of Baba used to serve her too. She was young in age, but all would respect her & act as per her wish & instruction.

Before Radhakrishna Aai came to Shirdi, Kandaji Lalbhai Shaikh, a Muslim used to provide Betel-leaves to Baba. Since she came, she would look after Baba’s needs. She would do all sorts of work. Some are given below:

• She would clean the surroundings of Dwarakamai & sweep all the roads, which Baba used.

• She would bring butter, cashew, almonds, laddu, roti, milk & yoghurt etc., for Baba as breakfast.

• She would keep hot water ready for Him to clean the teeth in the morning.

• For lunch, she would send rawa-halwa, Payasam (Khir) & Pakodas together with subji, chatni etc., in silver plates.

• In the evening again she would send different eatables & drinking water in silver jug with spout (Zari).

• She brought all silver utensils need for Baba’s worship, big bowl (Gangajal) for His Bath & a few other things like glasses, trays, perfume bottles & rose water sprinklers.

• She brought soft mattresses, pillows etc., for Baba to sit & sleep on.

• Baba used to go to Chawadi on alternate days. She started custom of daily procession from Dwarakamai to Chawadi. A palanquin, a chariout (on every Thursday) were included in the procession by her suggestion.

• With the help of Purandare Kaka, she got some arches set on the way by which Baba would pass. The arches were then covered with some creeper plants as decoration & making shade on the way.

• She adorned Dwarakamai with beautiful curtains.

• She designated some people to accompany the procession as Bhaldar & Chopdar. She decided & made the unifors for them. She bought silver sticks to be held by them while walking by the side of Baba.

• She arranged petromax lamps which were necessary for the procession.

In these & many other ways Radhakrishna Aai added to the splendour of Baba. With the help of Baba’s close devotees she implemented the process of making Shirdi a Sansthan.

Her stay in Shirdi was not more then nine years or so. But in that short span of time she brought about many good changes in Shirdi.

Her life is nothing less than the “RADHA-VILAS” for Lord Krishna.

Why can't the temple be Built on the ground Rather than Being on Top of a Hillock with Stairs to Climb!

Aum Sai Ram.

I used to go to the Temple with my grandma. The temple had flights of stairs. I used to ask her
why can't they build the temple on the ground? Why do you have to climb the stairs at each and everyday temple?

The answer she gave me was interesting, she said "You Need To Rise Above Your Level To Reach God". Each step in those stairs is a reminder that you are rising above your level in terms of your envy, your greed, anger, ego and all evil parts of your life.

It also suggests that you have to climb the steps one by one, you can't just jump off from first step to the last step. That is the cycle of life, once you conquer these aspects you reach towards your inner core self!

With Sai's Luv & Best Wishes.

~ Shirdi Sai Baba: 'NO' After The Mahasamadhi ~

Aum Sai Ram.

It is clear, evident and proved beyond all reasonable doubts by the grace of ‪Shirdi‬ Sai Baba that after His Maha Samadhi he had no Sishyas (Disciples), No Hereditary, No Successor, No Rebirth and No Reincarnation to Him. From His Mahasamadhi till date and even upto the year 2918 as was told by Him, He Himself is effecting the welfare of His devotees.

1) No Sishyas, No Hereditary, No Successor.

Sai Baba took Mahasamadhi on 15-10-1918. After His ‪Mahasamadhi‬, Baba's Samadhi was not looked after in a fit manner upto 1922.

Having seen the maintenance of ‪Saibaba‬'s Samadhi by the Villagers, Shri Kakasaheb Dixit came to Shirdi, settled an office with a managing committee under Public Trust Act with the approval of the District Court, Ahmednagar.

At that time, Shri Abdul Baba was performing Abhishek to Baba's Samadhi and the Maha Naivedyam Food was given to him and he was allowed to take his residence in the room situated in the left side of the Samadhi Mandir.

Shri Abdul Baba was the then only local leading devotee of Baba. He was then having about four or five thousand rupees of Baba's dakshina amount with him offered by Baba's devotees.

Some well wishers of him induced him that he was the legal heir to Baba and that the formation of the Trust was against justice.

Thereby Abdul Baba filed a suit stating that he was the legal heir to Baba, against the Trust Body in the District Court, Ahmednagar.

The District Court by the grace of Baba passed orders that Abdul Baba had no connection of the maintenance of the Sansthan of Shri Sai Baba, Shirdi and that there was no heir or successor to Shri Sai Baba, Shirdi.

On the strength of this order the Maha Naivedyam food given to him was stopped by the Sansthan and he was made to vacate his room in Baba's Samadhi Mandir.

As Baba said, that He would be with the same power for one thousand years and looking after the welfare of His devotee?

He Himself Proved that there were No Sishyas, No Relatives, No Hereditary, No Successor to Him.

2) Sai Baba's Gaddi (sack) for Nobody.

Shri Muktaram was a staunch devotee of Baba. Mukta Ram dressed exactly like Baba.

He wore a white Kafni, tied a white cloth around his head, and had langoti around his loin.

It was Baba who gave him the Kafni and the white cloth to tie on his head. Upon Baba’s instruction he had an ever burning Dhuni Maa in his room, which was a cramped tin shed adjacent to Dixit’s Wada and there he sat till it was time for him to go again to the Dwarkamai.

After some days of Baba's Samadhi, he came and sat on Baba's Gaddi (sack) and leaned against the central pillar in ‪Dwarkamai‬.

As soon as he sat on Sai Baba's Gaddi against the wishes of the villagers also, he began to vomit blood and he was taken to his residence in the Dixit wada. The devotees have decided to take him to Kopargaon Hospital.

Before the decision was taken with whom he was to be sent to Kopergaon, he died in Dixit wada itself. His Samadhi is in Lendi Baug.

This incident also go to show that Baba was not willing to allow anybody to occupy His Gaddi.

3) No Rebirth.

When Baba was in flesh and blood, He told that "I would take Rebirth". Having ground on this word of Baba, people in some places pose that they were Sai and their words were Sai's words.

In 1943 a boy in Amravathi was directing people that he was Sai Himself and that he earned a lot of money and began to utilise for himself. Then the people realised his deceit and found that there was not even a bit of Sai's cult in him and ignored him afterwards.

Secondly, another person near Madras began to tell people's Aim in their Mind for the Present and the Past (Mind reading) and Began to Earn in Sai's name due to his Greediness.

Once he told to the people "why are you people wandering for the dead Sai Baba. I am with life here". On hearing these words from him, people determined that he was not the rebirth of Sai Baba as Baba Himself told that "Saints Never Die".

4) Baba's Silver Padukas, Photos back to Shirdi Sansthan by Shama.

After Baba's Mahasamadhi, Madhava Rao Deshpande alias Shama was managing the Dixit wada. He was looking after the welfare of the devotees and resided in Dixit wada itself.

After the formation of Baba's Sansthan Committee the Committee demanded agreement (Baada Chitti in Marathi) from him for his residence in Dixit wada.

Madhava Rao first refused. But later, Shri S. B. Dhumal and Shri B. V. Dev intervened and Madhava Rao gave the agreement.

After some days, the committee have vacated Madhava Rao from his residence in Dixit Wada. At the time of vacating, he had taken away Baba's Silver Padukas, Baba's Photos etc. to his house from Dixit wada without anyone's Notice.

After knowing this, the Committee asked Madhava Rao to hand over the above artilces of Baba to the Sansthan.

He refused first. But Shri S. B, Dhumal went to his house with a big procession of bhajan, band etc.

On seeing this procession Madhava Rao handed over all the above articles of Baba to Shri S. B. Dhumal. These Baba's Padukas were placed before Baba's Photo in Dwarakamayee wherein lakhs of devotees are taking darshan of the above Baba's Padukas now.

Why Sai Baba Took Mahasamadhi On Vijaya Dasami.

Aum Sai Ram

Vijaya-Dasami means the triumph of good over evil, the triumph of righteousness over unrighteousness. The day Lord Rama killed Ravana and freed Sita from his clutches and this occasion is celebrated by the entire country.

But the day of Vijaya-Dashami (also called Dussehra) is also very important for Shirdi Sai Baba and his devotees, because it was on 15th October 1918, Vijaya-Dashami day when Baba left his mortal coil. So, this day is venerated as the holy day that Sai Baba attained Mahasamadhi (Punyatithi) and is a big festival in Shirdi.

In ancient times, the Kings used to perform the Ayudha Puja on Vijaya-Dashami day and then used to cross the frontier of their kingdom to fight against their rivals or neighboring kingdoms.
Since then, every Vijaya-Dashami day, people in Maharashtra, cross the borders of their villages / places and return back. This ritual is called as "Seemolanghan". They then collect the leaves of Apta tree and exchange among their friends & relatives as gold. People also worship the Shami tree and its leaves. Sai Baba also used to take part in this "Seemolanghan" festivities with the villagers.

Once, during the Dussehra of 1916 when the villagers returned back from the ritual of "Seemolanghan", they found Baba in a angry mood. Actually, during the ritual some people were trying to know whether Baba was a Hindu or a Muslim, and when Baba came to know about it, he got very angry. Taking off His Head-dress, Kafni and Langota etc. He tore them and threw them into the Dhuni before him. Everybody was trembling with fear and nobody dared to approach Baba. But then Bhagoji Shinde gathered courage and succeeded in tying a Langota round his waist and asked Baba as to what is all this? "Today is Seemolanghan", Baba striking the ground with his satka said, "This is my Seemolanghan” !!!

By this incident, Baba gave an indication that in the future, Vijaya-Dashami was the right day for Him to cross the border of life. which the devotees could finally understand after two years on Dussehra 1918 only.

In 1918, some time before Dussehra, Sai Baba prophesied to Ramchandra Patil that Tatya Patil was going to pass away on Vijaya-Dashami 1918. Tatya who used to refer Baba as his Uncle, was the son of Baijabai, a staunch devotee of Baba. Baba had decided to save Tatya life. On 28th September 1918 Baba got a slight attack of fever which lasted for a couple of days, but afterwards Baba gave up his food and thereby he grew weaker and weaker.

And true to Baba's word, a few days before Vijaya Dasami1918, Tatya fell sick and was bed-ridden. Baba was also down with fever. Tatya's illness began to grow from bad to worse and he could not move at all but always remembered Baba. The predicament of Baba began to grow equally worse. As, Vijaya-Dashami dawned,Tatya's pulse began to beat very slow and he was expected to pass away shortly. But then a miracle happened. Tatya's death was averted and at about 02:30 p.m on 15th October 1918, Baba breathed his last.

Thus on Vijaya-Dasami day itself, Baba crossed over his physical borders (Seemolanghan) and took Mahasamadhi. The Day also has significance as apart from Vijaya-Dashami, it also happened to be the Muslim month of Ramzan and a few minutes into Ekadasi (a significant lunar cycle in the Hindu calendar).

- SHIRDI THE "MAHA-TEERTH" -
Today due to Sai Baba's boundless grace, Shirdi has become a "Maha-Teerth" (Great Pilgrimage). Who was Sai Baba or How was Sai Baba, no one truly knows but surely all have many stories narrating his glory. Around 1854, at the age of 16 yrs Baba came to Shirdi. He used to remain absorbed in Samadhi sitting under the neem tree and never met anyone during the Day while used to roam about fearlessly at Night. He never went to anyones Home. Heat and cold did not matter to him at all. The villagers who found him very Saint like, used to ask him as to who he was and from where he had come.

After staying some time living in Shirdi, suddenly one day that child left Shirdi Village only to return several years later with Chand Patil's nephews wedding procession. Where the Khandoba temple priest Mahalsapati welcomed him by saying "Ya Sai". And since that day he was called as Sai Baba, who thus settled down in Shirdi permanently.

Who was he, where was he born, who were his mother & father?
These are some questions whose answers no one has nor did Baba reveal to anyone.

Due to the miracles of Shirdi Sai Baba, his fame spread around. He has removed the sufferings of countless people. Who ever came to him has not returned in despair.

- SAI WANTS ONLY LOVE & DEVOTION -
To understand Baba correctly or to please him, his teachings need to be implemented. Baba was so kind and compassionate that even Cats & Dogs used to eat from his utensils freely. He used to say that to feed a hungry dog, was like offering food to him. Baba never gave discourses to his devotees. Who ever reads about Baba, gains knowledge by his teachings and becomes his devotee.
To worship Baba, there are no rules or protocols as Baba is a slave to pure Love and Devotion only.

Baba never advised anyone to leave their responsibilities or home and go to Temples or spend hours in worship. Simply keeping Baba in their Minds is equal to doing his worship. Those who have profound faith in Baba, used to feel close to Baba earlier also and do so today. Purer a Heart, Closer is Baba. As, a Pure Heart needs no miracles from Baba to believe in his existence.

Thats why today Baba has devotees not only in India but also abroad in places like America, England, Australia, Canada, South Africa etc.

What is Diwali Bonus?

Aum Sai Ram.

Initially there was a concept of salary to be paid on a weekly basis to the workers in India, particularly the textile and flour mill workers in Bombay. So you received 52 salaries in a year.

But when British started ruling India they came up with concept of Monthly salary which meant you were getting paid for 48 weeks only.

So if we have 4 weeks in a month, 13 salaries should have been distributed but as per a monthly structure they were giving only 12 salaries in a year.

When people realized that this was a loss to them in terms of one salary many protest rallies were organised in Maharashtra during 1930-1940.

The British then came up with a solution to this problem. After discussion with labour leaders about how to distribute this 13th salary and they decided Diwali being the biggest festival of India, they would distribute this 13th salary durring Diwali. Today this is called the Diwali Bonus.

This was implemented from 30th June 1940.

Many don't know the history behind the Diwali Bonus and hence this post.

Sai Baba & the Tiger - 8th October 1918.

Aum Sai Ram.

A beautiful incident that happened on 8th October in Shirdi at Baba's feet exactly 97 years ago.

On October 8th,1918 which was 7 days before Baba passed away in His physical form, a beautiful incident occured in Shirdi which had everyone in awe. A country-cart had stopped in front of the Masjid and on it was a Tiger fastened with iron chains with a fierce face. It was also suffering from some pain and was in great agony. It had three keepers who were taking it from place to place and making money by exhibiting it, It was also their only means of subsistence.

As the Tiger was suffering from some ailment which they could not fathom they tried all sorts of remedies but in vain, they had heard of Baba and has come to HIM with the animal.

They got the Tiger down with the chain in their hands and made it stand at the door. The Animal was fierce but also very restless. As it approached the steps, it suddenly hung its head down and saw towards Baba, it continued looking at Baba and also Baba was looking at it. When it got on the step of the Masjid, it moved the tuft of its tail and dashed it thrice against the ground and then fell down senseless.

People were taken aback as to how such a fierce animal could fall down like that and merge at His Lotus Feet. Then everyone understood that the Animal must have known that it was nearing its end and wanted to die at the feet and in the presence of Baba. It was their debtor, and when the debt was paid off it was free and met its end at Sai's Feet.

When any creatures bow down their heads at saints' feet and meet death, they are saved; and unless they have got a good store of merit on their account, how could they get such a happy end?

The Leela of how K. J. Bhishma Composed the “Shri Sadguru Sainath Sagunopasana”

Aum Sai Ram.

The Leela of how K. J. Bhishma Composed the “Shri Sadguru Sainath Sagunopasana”

Krishnashastri Jageshwar Bhishma (K.J.Bhishma) was a resident of a village called Bori or Butibori in the district of Nagpur. He lived on the income derived from his farms. He got married but his married life was short lived. He married once again. He had four children. He became restless after the death of his second wife. He was Revenue Inspector at that time and left the job.

His relatives, friends and well wishers advised him to remarry again but he declined. In 1908, one night, he had a dream in which he saw a person of dark complexion in traditional dress with Tripundra mark (3 horizontal lines of vibhuti (holy ash) on the brow, often with a dot (bindu) as the third eye) on his forehead, sandalwood paste mixed with saffron was applied to his body and puja was performed at the feet of that person who appeared as a vaishnava holy man. In the dream, that holy man gave Bhishma a newspaper and Bhishma desired to know who he was and enquired; but the holy man did not reply but pointed to the newspaper on which “Sat-Chit-Ananda” (Being-Consciousness-Bliss) was printed in bold letters.

When Bhishma wanted to know what it was, the holy man again simply pointed to the newspaper wherein appeared another set of words, “Mantra va shikava” which means “chant mantra and learn”. It was not clear to Bhishma and Bhishma wanted to know further about him. But both the holy person and the newspaper had disappeared.. Bhishma could not make out anything and before he posed another question the Vaishnava saint vanished with his mystic scroll. Bhishma was puzzled and totally confused, but in the meantime he heard a knock at the door and his dream ended.

He immediately recorded the dream and was thinking about the import of the dream for some time, but was unable to unravel the mystery and significance of the dream. After some time a sadhu, a devotee of ‪Ganesha‬, visited Bori. Bhishma narrated his dream to the sadhu who told him that “Sat-Chit-Ananda Swami” was his guru, and gave him the mantra “va shikava”. He had 90 acres of land and was affluent. He renounced all his property and became an ascetic and started wearing ochre robes. He was a prolific writer and wrote many religious books. He started spending his life in performing kirtans and bhajans (eulogies to God). He was interested in social work and removing untouchability.

After sometime Bhishma happened to visit Amraoti where Dadasaheb Khaparde, his friend, was preparing to visit ‪Shirdi‬. He asked Bhishma whether he would like to accompany him to Shirdi. Bhishma agreed and accompanied Khaparde to Shirdi. When Bhishma went into ‪Dwarkamai‬ ‪masjid‬ for Baba’s darshan, Baba uttered with folded hands, “Jai Sat-Chit-Ananda”. Bhishma, though perplexed initially, was wonder-struck as to whether the holy man of his dream was Baba himself. But he thought that the holy man of his dream was a Vaishnavite while Baba appeared to be a Muslim. In spite of this, why Baba uttered those words was not clear to him. A thought appeared in his mind that ‪Saibaba‬ might be the holy man who appeared in his dream. But, he thought that the holy man who appeared in his dream was a Vaishnava saint while Baba in Shirdi was a Muslim Guru. He further reconciled thinking that due to his orthodox proclivity, he was unable to identify the holy man of his dream with Baba whom he considered as a Muslim.

While at Shirdi though he saw many Brahmins devoutly receiving Baba's pada teerth without any orthodox scruple, he gently avoided taking Baba’s pada teerth. Baba was in the habit of smoking tobacco from a chillim and as he smoked he used to offer a puff to the devotees present. Bhishma was apprehensive at heart at the possibility of smoking a chillim polluted by the lips of a Muslim. As per his internal thought, for the first few days, Baba never offered a puff to Bhishma even though he was sitting very close by. One day while Baba was narrating a parable to a group of devotees including Bhishma, a devotee got the chillim ready and gave it to Baba. Baba held it out to Bhishma and directed him to smoke after merely touching the chillim to his mouth. Bhishma followed Baba’s order without any demur and had a puff and then returned it to Baba. Baba accepted it and remarked, “I roam everywhere, my friend – Bombay, Pune, Satara, Nagpur; all those towns are filled with the presence of Rama”. Then he suddenly said to Bhishma in a complaining tone, "Well, Why do you eat the laddus all yourself without offering a single piece to me? At least now give me five laddus!"

Sai Baba’s remark had a strange effect on Bhishma. The distinction between the Vaishnav sadhu of his dream and Sai Baba disappeared. He knowingly asked the sevak for Sai Baba’s tirtha and placed his head on Sai Baba’s feet. Sai Baba put his palm on Bhishma’s head for two full minutes. Bhishma went into ecstasy. How could he describe the state of his mind except by saying like Devnath in his famous composition “Gurukrupayka uhnjuna paya mera main janu”. “The ‪Guru‬’s Grace I have received I know it for myself”.

Bhishma returned to his lodging, brooding on how he could prepare five laddus in a place where he himself was a guest. Even otherwise he would have had to take the assistance of another person for the purpose and Sai Baba would have surely known about it. Moreover, why did Sai Baba ask him for only five laddus and not laddus generally?

He spent a day thinking about the deeper meaning thereof and fell asleep with this thought uppermost in his mind. Suddenly he woke up and was inspired to compose a stanza. In the morning while he busied himself with the second stanza, Hari Sitaram Dikshit, on his way to the Masjid, saw the stanza. After his bath, Bhishma went to the Masjid. Sai Baba reminded him about the laddus. Bhishma kept quiet but Dikshit replied that laddus were being prepared. On hearing this Sai Baba fell into a silence. Next day, Bhishma completed five stanzas, and however hard he tried, he could not compose any more.

So he placed the composition of five stanzas into Sai Baba’s hands.Sai Baba asked him to recite them. While he was reciting, Sai Baba again blessed him by putting his palm on his head and Bhishma felt exalted. Thereafter Bhishma would compose a verse and show it to Sai Baba who would order him to render it. Thus the booklet “Shri Sainath Sagunopasna” wrote itself and was offered at Sai Baba’s feet. Dadasaheb Khaparde has the booklet published at his expense till 1922. Later on in 1923, after Shri Sai Baba Sansthan was founded, with Bhishma’s consent a revised edition was planned and published by the Sansthan with incorporation of more compositions therein.

Bhishma prepared a booklet entitled ‪Shri Sainath Sagunopasana‬ which contained, besides the Aarti, psalms sung in Aarti to Shri Sai Baba, some traditional hymns from the Hindu liturgy like, Purusha Suktam, Sree Suktam, Mantra Pushpam, Sri Lakshmi Ashtotharam, intended for use in the daily worship of the devotees. Shri G.S. Khaparde had borne all the expenses of its publication till 1922, After Baba's Mahasamadhi, the book has been adapted as the official 'Book of Daily Worship' at the Samadhi Mandir.Shri Sai Baba Sansthan, Shirdi, on making some additions to it, has taken up the publication of the revised edition since 1923.

In all, there are thirty psalms in the Book of Shirdi Aartis. Of the thirty, only sixteen are especially composed on Shri Sai Baba. The rest (fourteen, i.e. about half), are traditional Aarti psalms composed by the medieval poet-saints of Maharashtra (excepting a Vedic chant). Of the fourteen traditional psalms, five are composed by Sant ‪Tukaram‬ Maharaj, two each by Sant Namadev‬ and Sant ‪Janabai‬, one each by Shri. Ramjanardhan Swami and Shri. Rameshwar Bhat; of the remaining three, one is a ‪Vedic‬ hymn and the other two are traditional prayers.

Of the sixteen, psalms especially written on Shri Sai Baba, the major bulk, i.e. nine, are composed by Shri. K.J. Bhishma, three by Shri. ‪Dasganu‬ Maharaj, one each by Shri.‪Upasani‬ Maharaj, Shri. Madhav Adkar, Shri. Mohini Raj and Shri. B.V. Dev.

Linguistically, of the thirty Aarti psalms, twenty five are in Marathi, two in Hindi, two in Sanskrit and one a bilingual anthology of short Marathi and Sanskrit prayers.(Source: Shri Sai Leela, September 1985 Issue)
